My Moment
Monday 28th September 2015
Today we had a very special who lectured us on how to write good screenplays. This delightful man was Steve Coombes. I would like to share with you what I learnt from him and what I learn about him:
STEVE COOMBES:

As a writer:
- Jakes Journey
- Love Joy
- Birds of a feather
- Frank Stubbs Presents
- Roughnecks
- New Tricks
- Hustle
Feature Film:
'What rats won't do' = produced by Working Title Films 1998
TV Series:
Outlaws = nominated for BAFTA
Currently working on Rusk, Clubland and Cu_ts (BBC medical series)
As you can tell Coombes is a very successful writer (evidently shown by being nominated for a BAFTA) and takes his work very seriously. For his series 'Outlaws' Coombes did a great deal amount of research before hand. 'Outlaws' got a rating of 8.5 on imdb.com
In our lesson with Coombes, he emphasised the importance of MOMENTS! As well as emphasising that 'you cant say it, you have to show it'
A bunch of moments = a script
Also, change is always good. You must have change in your script (usually through your characters)
As an assignment he wanted us to find what our moment was.

'SANDY?..... DANNY?'
Why is it my moment?
This is my favourite scene from any film because as many times as i watch it, the feeling i have never changes.
The build up to this scene is done so cleverly by writer Bronte Woodard and director Randal Kleiser. As an audience, we are aware that Sandy and Danny are at the same high school and we are waiting for the moment were they are reunited. The build up to the scene is thrilling as when they see each other the happiness and excitement affects the audience as well. But I'm always shocked when i see Danny acting cool and trying to impress himself but in the ed he also hurts himself. From that moment on I'm always routing for Danny to change character and just show his true feelings for Sandy (which he does in the end).
