Year 2 - News Production Unit

Group:
Cheyenne Joseph
Saskia Tatt
Rosie Penn
Imogen Polycarpou

My group decided to come up with  individual ideas, in depth, to see which one has enough events and/or information.

My idea:
As for my idea, I thought about a news channel that only reports good news, or looks at the bright side of everyday news.

Investigation:
After much research on the internet these are upcoming events that I found which are done for a good cause:

1. http://www.kindspring.org/smilecards/  --> here you can give gifts to strangers as an act of kindness

2. At Leeds castle:
Festival of flowers (23rd and 24th September)
They also have a famous dutch floral designer (25th September):

3. https://www.leeds-castle.com/What%E2%80%99s+On/Search%20Results/?event-month
Various events at Leeds Castle

4. Margates Exhibition (24th September) - https://www.turnercontemporary.org/

5. Chatham Dockyard and its events: http://thedockyard.co.uk/whats-on/call-the-midwife-location-tours/

As for the weather: if reporting the weather we can show it in a good way; e.g. rain = good for environment

Conclusion:
After doing the research I feel that my idea has gone more towards reporting on events that are happening within Kent which shows the beauty and happiness of the country. Not only, but there is also much happening within Kent that can be reported. Furthermore, there aren;t many news channels that report just the good stuff there for there is a need for it, exception being https://twitter.com/goodnews?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

After discussion with Helen on 22.09.16

Due to many of the charity events and fundraisers have been done over summer, there is not a lot of events happening lately.

Possible stories to discuss:
  1. http://www.brogdalecollections.org/festivals-events/   --> the events here which we could film is the Apple Festival on the 15th and 16th October at Brogdale
  2. As for the KindSpring website, we could always send something off --> as for interviewing someone who has received something is not possible as everything is done anonymously. Also, this is not just for the UK it is worldwide
  3. Refugees : https://kran.org.uk/     http://www.samphireproject.org.uk/awareness-raising/events-2/   --> different schemes and projects done to help young asylum seekers. We could attend one of the projects/schemes and interview the children/volunteers (if possible) or we could volunteer ourselves
  4. Weather: what ever the weather is on that day we could make it into something positive
  5. Leeds Castle events - flower festivals
  6. Chatham Dockyard events - tours around the dockyard where Call the Midwife, museums

Events in London:

  1. Chocolate show: http://www.visitlondon.com/things-to-do/place/44047539-chocolate-show#mUZCeuxD5YjV5rUZ.97
  2. Queens Fashion Show  http://www.visitlondon.com/things-to-do/event/43533417-fashioning-a-reign-90-years-of-style-from-the-queens-wardrobe-at-buckingham-palace#39ivZlMSkmpQ6WIX.97
