Workshop Research for 16.02.17

Image
For our workshop with Helen, it is my groups job is to rehearse what the opening of our show will be. This is research for the filming and editing on the 16th February. I decided to look at two popular tv shows and how they opened the shows. Even though I'm only FM and PM i wanted to give some ideas and have an input. The Price is Right (US):  - camera follows the audience and introduces contestants (with a VO guy who is introduced at when the host comes on) 0.55 seconds in - the presenter comes on and presents his monologue - the camera moves about a lot, very high energy and enthusiasm - 2.22 minutes in - Audience: people are in teams and are have uniforms to show their teams (aka costumes) - extremely enthusiastic - host and VO - different people (has a certain effect with voice over) Bobs Full House:  - graphics opening -0.30 seconds the walks onto set - no audience shot yet - very static and simple shot (MS and WS) - has a monologue 2.27 - then introduces the con

First Workshop with Del Brown

The first lesson we did with Del was an overview of the different types of roles involved in live television and a quick introduction into the studio which we will be using and the control room. He also explained to us terms that we would have to know when being in a studio environment.

Inspiration Research - the Big Fat Quiz of Everything

Image
Since Josh J said that his main inspiration was the show 'The big fat quiz of everything', I watched it to get a better understanding of what type of show he wanted. I looked over it to see how the show is introduced, the title sequence, humour, questions and so forth. Opening Titles: Scientists, dinosaurs, musicians, poets, authors, royalty (graphics, travelling to famous sight) - general knowledge (at the end the title of the show comes on). Opening: - wide side shot = shows audience, guest, host and set - medium hot of presenter = introduces show, says a mini monologue of jokes (insults audience), then introduces guest with a humours insult. Asks guest questions (funny) stories, jokes; ask each other questions, host sits back --> shows reaction shots of guest to other guest - they interact with one another. Usually two shots which shows the teams together Rounds: - various general knowledges (includes VT) - introduces round, makes a joke about history

OFCOM Broadcasting Code 2015

Image
I researched into OFCOM to get a better understanding of the rules and regulations for our TV show. Below are some points that I feel stand out for me: The below points are about under 18s: to protect anything that might effect their physical, mental or moral development.  Watershed --> 21:00, material which is not meant for children (under 15s). Should not be shown before 9pm = but stronger material should generally appear later on in the schedule, during watershed. sexual offences should not be shown before watershed e.g. incest  drugs, smoking, alcohol --> not be featured in movies directed to children unless its for a justified reason violence and dangerous behaviour = appropriate for limited programmes and if harmful should not be shown (before watershed)  offensive language - not allowed to be broadcast before watershed  sexual material (must be rated R18). Adult material only allowed to be shown between 22:00-05:00 and nudity must be justified  competiti

History of TV shows

Image
This blog post is to just show research into the history of shows - how they came about and how they developed. Spelling Bee TV was first broadcasted November 2nd 1936 from Alexandra Palace. The first game show to be broadcasted was Spelling Bee in May 1938 - the game had its contestants spell a series of words and that was it. But during the second world war there was no TV. In the 1950s a simple panel show called Whats my Line came about which carried on running until the 90s. Then in 1955 ITV was formed to carry out commercials and be formed from a number of local companies --> making some game shows not shown in some parts of the country. The top hosts for this period of time was Hughie Green and Michael Miles. With commercial funding, it allowed game shows to offer money prizes, with shows like Take your Pick, Double your Money. In the late 1950s ITV put a quiz show six times a week during prime time with the most popular being Criss Cross Quiz, Dotto, The 64,000 dolla

The Idea I chose to go with is Party Mania: Feedback after my PITCH: - good idea - wrong channel (more targeted to Cbeebies) - musical chairs is a safety hazard could become a bit competitive Pitch: What if 70s children games were played by adults?

Research on ITV for Party Mania

Image
For my idea, I feel that it is best suited for ITV. Therefore, I did some research on the channel which had proved me right. I looked at the types of shows are on, and the scheduling. The reason I felt ITV was best suited for my idea, Party Mania, is because its TV Shows are more relaxed, easy going and not so serious. First thing I looked at was the type of TV shows on ITV. I did this to see if they match my type of idea and its tone. The shows which I believe match the tone of Party Mania are: - Celebrity Juice - Thursday 22:00  -  The Chase - Everyday 17:00  - The Hot Desk - everyday 5-6 am  - Good Morning - Everyday 6:00  - I'm a Celebrity Get me out of here -  Wednesday 20:00-21:00  - Loose Women - everyday 12:30pm  - TOWIE - Sunday 2:45pm  -  Take me out - Saturday 20:00 - Saturday Night Take Away - - This morning - everyday 10:30  - Through the Key Hole - Saturday 21:00-22:00 * Although some of the above shows are talk shows (and not a game show), they stil

Research into Similar TV shows like Party Mania

This blog post is to show where I got inspired from, but also to see how a game show (which is active) is laid out. My main inspiration is from Celebrity Juice (with its humour and its fun games).  Ninja Warrirors UK IMDB: 6.2/10  2015-2017 Hosts:  Ben Shephard  Rochelle Homes  Chris Kamara  Opening Sequence: graphics of the world, it then zooms into the United Kingdom (with voice over). It then goes on to show clips from the series. (so not live). It then goes to the studios where the 3 presenters are who introduce the games and the competitors. A ninja demonstrates each game as well as the hosts explain it in voice over. Throughout the episode, there are different VTs from various contestants which shows them training and giving a small introduction to themselves (not every contestant). Sometimes contestant dress up in weird outfits and run up to the start point in a funny way - this creates humour and makes the show light hearted. Also, the hosts comment on the

Studio Production Ideas

Idea 1 - Party Mania:   What if children's party games were played by adults?  Types of games:  musical chairs - have to wear rubber rings? or really big chairs and really small chairs pass the parcel - have to wear mitten to make it difficult to open   musical statues - wear platforms or have to balance on wobbly boards?   Blindman's Bluff   Simon says   Chinese whispers - we are headphones so they cant really hear properly?   slang shirts - make a shirt that has all the 70s slang terms - who ever has the most words is the winner or pens could be really small or really big   twister - wear flippers to make it difficult?   pet rock contest - 40 second to make one?   karaoke? - maybe…   Layout of series: each episode there are different contestants  the presenter will also be the judge (audience as well for some of the games)   there will be a certain amount of time to each game - varying from 40 seconds to 3/4 minutes each game (6 to 7 games can
