Research into Similar TV shows like Party Mania

This blog post is to show where I got inspired from, but also to see how a game show (which is active) is laid out. My main inspiration is from Celebrity Juice (with its humour and its fun games).

Ninja Warrirors UK
IMDB: 6.2/10
2015-2017
Hosts:
Ben Shephard
Rochelle Homes
Chris Kamara

Opening Sequence: graphics of the world, it then zooms into the United Kingdom (with voice over). It then goes on to show clips from the series. (so not live). It then goes to the studios where the 3 presenters are who introduce the games and the competitors.

A ninja demonstrates each game as well as the hosts explain it in voice over. Throughout the episode, there are different VTs from various contestants which shows them training and giving a small introduction to themselves (not every contestant). Sometimes contestant dress up in weird outfits and run up to the start point in a funny way - this creates humour and makes the show light hearted. Also, the hosts comment on the competitors making jokes or laughing whilst it is their go on the show.

As it is the British version of the game, its colour code is red and blue (which is the colour of the British flag), whilst also creating a dramatic and intense atmosphere.

The rule of the game is simple: get to the finish as quickly as possible - the top 10 quickest time go to the semi-finals.

Celebrity Juice
IMDB: 7.6/10
2008-2016
Hosts:
Leigh Francis - Keith Lemon
Holly Willoughby
Fearne Cotton

Opening Sequence: (26 seconds) . It has a God like opening, which introduces the host (Keith) and the presenters (Holly and Fearne). It is slightly stop motion, cartoon based with their actual heads from various celebrities photoshopped, who have attended the show. By doing this it creates a humorous tone, laid back tone - but it also highlights how the show is not serious.

Keith Lemon is always in the audience, then runs and sits down on the set. He begins by introduces the team captains (Holly and Fearne) who then introduce who is on their team. Keith then in a way interviews the stars by mocking them, or joking about with on the latest things they've done or something which they are known for. Likewise, the stars then sometimes mock Keith as well.

The set design is full of glitter reminding us of the red carpet (but it also relates to the show title 'Celebrity'). The name of the games vary depending on who the guest stars are (but the games stay the same - just the title changes, which sometimes mocks the stars). Today, a famous game is their version of Chinese whispers. The contestants sit on a toilet, with pants down to their knees (not their ones, on top of their clothes).

The reason I chose these two series, is mainly because of the tone of the shows. Although they are two very different shows, I would like something in between.  I was inspired by Celebrity Juice because of the laid back attitude and the relationship between the hosts and their guests. It is something which I would like to have on my show with an easy going environment. Their games as well, are like the games I would like to have (they usually have a twist on them which makes it more entertaining for those playing and for the audience. As for Ninja Warriors, I liked the warm up when they were about to start the game (something funny), but also their VTs were good; which introduced the game and the contestants.
