Since part of the focus of our news channel is on make-up I decided to research about about it. Here is a short timeline on makeup.

10,000 BC
Men and women in Egypt used scented oils and ointments to soften and clean their skin and mask body odour. Some ingredients they used were: myrrh, thyme, marjoram, chamomile, lavender, lily, peppermint, rosemary, cedar, rose, aloe, olive oil and almond oil.

Grecians whiten their complexions with chalk or lead face powder and fashion crude lipstick out of ochre clays laced with red onion.
500AD
During the European middle ages, pale skin was a sign of wealthy lifestyle. Sixth century women sought drastic measures to achieve that loo by bleeding themselves. Spanish prostitutes wore pink makeup.
1820AD
The most dangerous beauty aids during this time were white lead and powdered mercury. They not only eventually ruined the skin but also caused hair loss, stomach problems, the shakes and could even cause death.

Women begin to make their own mascara by adding hot bead of black wax to the top of their eyelashes.

The first blush powder was created.

Make up specially designed for men is introduced; manscara, guyliner.
