Involvement as Production Manager in actors/host
When it came to finding the host for the show I was involved in terms of money. I had the opportunity to sit and watch the auditions and discuss with the people who auditioned if they require equity rate, and if they would be happy to just receive travel money and food.
Before the auditions a form was made by me which had to be completed before we decided who would be the host (the form is seen below):
After all the auditions were completed I sat down with the director, producer and assistant producer and we graded them in terms of appearance, mannerism, how realistic they were and there performance. We graded them out of 10; 10 being great and 0 being bad. And also said if we would recommend them to UCA to be used in other student productions. Below is the completed sheet:
Final Decision:
We decided to go for Piers Hunt, as he was the best candidate. He was the most realistic and confident person out of all of them and was able to have good communication with the contestants even though they were not being very communicative.
After a lot of consideration, I decided that it would be fair to pay him the minimum equity rate for the last 2 rehearsals. The reason for this is because we are not sure how long those rehearsals will take, and also he is travelling from a great distance.
Please look at budget blog post for further details.
Problem:
Unfortunately, the person who we originally chose (Piers Hunt) dropped out on us. This was because he found a better job which paid him £100 a day and also no longer wanted to participate in our production because of the travel distance.
Originally he said to the producer that he was not happy working with us for more than 4 days, so I came up with a schedule and sent it to him and let me know if he was happy with it. Below is the schedule which I made for him:
After this, in our Production Meeting 4 we showed the whole class George Sesay audition tape and Piers Hunt. Everybody had preferred George Sesay, therefore I got on the phone with him and persuaded him that we preferred him as a host after showing the professors and the crew all the audition tapes and if he was still willing to do those dates.
After he agreed, I said I would make all the call sheet and his contract and pass that onto him along with all the scripts he needs by the 10th March 2017 the latests.
I will not upload screenshots of the emails or his contracts incase he doesn't want his signature to be on the internet. I will attach it though to the screenshot of the blog for Helen and Simon to see.
