Background Research on Poet

For this unit, I chose the poem 59 by Harry Baker. Therefore I did a bit of research on him and what type of poems he does.

Name: Harry Baker

Background info:
- did a maths degree at University of Bristol
- he started with poetry when he went to the Edinburgh festival with his family at a open mic event. After that he decided to take a gap year and travel, so he could focus on poetry.
- 59 was his first poem (a love story about prime numbers)
- after having his own shown at the Fringe he got great recognition from Radio1

Won:
- 2010 London Slam Champion
- 2011 UK and European Slam Champion
- 2012 World Slam Champion

Has a book called - 'The Sunshine Kid' which is about his journey as poet from childhood to now.

He now does a show with his childhood friend and they are known as Harry and Chris. Harry is a rapper/poet and Chris is a musician and together they collaborate to create something different. The type of genre that they focus on is pop/soul/funk/rap.  They will be touring around the UK for the next year.

When researching Harry, I realised that his poems are unique and different. There is no exact pattern when it comes to his poems besides the fact that they are odd and humorous. A few of his poems are 99 Problems but maths aint one, Falafelloeffe (a poem about a spoon for falafel), paper people and Sunshine kid  to name a few.  The reason I chose Harrys' poem was because I was intrigued by his poem and how creative he got in creating a love story between prime numbers. Therefore I thought, by having such an odd problem the adaptation could be something odd and unique as no one would question it. I felt I could get more creative myself with this poem.
