Harry Baker poem adaptations
This blog post is here to help me get a better understanding of the poem but the poet as well (also a bit of inspiration).
When researching Bakers poems I came across a video which was specifically made for him, but also one where he performs in it.
Upon watching the video it is clear that it is taking the poem in a literal sense word for word. With the obvious love story between the three characters; 59,60,61. By having 59 and 61 being 'odd' and 60 being 'perfect'.
Colour Tone:
It has warm colour tones. It follows the below colour scheme:
Narrator:
By having the narrator (Harry Baker) present in the story it made me feel like I was listening to a bed time story (not a poem). By doing this it actually made it easier to follow the story (as you pay attention to the narrator and what he is saying). Not only this but it showed that Harry Baker was the one saying the poem (emphasising that he wrote it) - therefore it does not make the audience wonder who wrote it.
My Project - for my piece I decided not to have the narrator in the video so it wont take the focus away from the story (which is unusual and abstract itself). But the character who plays 59 will narrate it.

It is not exactly this colour scheme but it has very similar colour tones. The brown - which creates a sense of warmth but the use of brown also means being down to earth - which 2 of the main characters are.
Characters:
One thing that I found unusual but something that wowed me was how they used the same actors but dressed them different to connote what the poem was saying. Meaning 60 and 61 was the same girl except when she was 60 she was dressed like a 'normal' teenage girl, taking care of her appearance (doing her nails and make up). But when she was 61 she was portrayed as a 'hippie', wearing a long skirt, casual dressed, make up free. Like wise, when it comes to 59 he is the same actor which supposed flirts with 60 as they are playing pool (except he is dressed differently). Furthermore, the same thing is applied to the mother of of 60/61. It is the same actress just dressed differently.
I feel that by doing this it highlights the significance appearance can have on someone is society. The way you express yourself can affect someones impression of you. But the moral of the video/poem is there to tell the audience that there is somebody out there for everyone but most importantly just because you don't fit in with one group doesn't mean you wont in a different one.
I also liked that when the characters were introduced their numbers appeared above them - by doing this the characters where labelled and this further emphasised the difference between each other.
My project - as i have not taken the poem in its literal meaning, I have not been inspired by the way the characters have been presented in this video. But I will be presented 60 as the perfect burger - loads of layers and looks tempting to it, and 61 will be a flat burger - something not so tempting, but the actual actress will be pretty but not the stereotypical pretty. 59 will also be a character who is different to the stereotypical guy (= tall, muscular, perfect jawline).
