Just like the other screenwriters I've chosen I enjoy Lawrence's TV shows because of the portrayal of his characters and the relationship between each one.

An example is Scrubs. Although these are unrealistic characters and slightly difficult to relate to due to  the over exaggeration of the characters. But, on a personal level and how they feel we easily can relate to them (love, heartbreak, sadness, competition, jealousy). Also, it is something completely different as we are used to watched serious medical series such as Greys Anatomy, ER, Private Practise. The humour is fantastically used to represent the special relationship between Turk and J.D.

What inspires me from Scrubs is the ability to create a serious surrounding yet humorous. Meaning, Scrubs is set in a hospital but the characters create a funny environment. In my script, its serious in the fact that a marriage is being arranged against someones will but due to the characters its made humorous through all their bickering.

Personally, I did not really enjoy Cougar Town (resulting in me stopping to watch it). Although I found it humorous and was determined to watch it because of Courtney Cox, I felt that it was repetitive. But, I did enjoy it in the beginning. What I liked was the unrealistic setting of a family which reminds me of my script (although arranged marriages used to happen.)

His wife also plays in Cougar Town as a extremely similar character from Scrubs; moody, doesn't care, miserable and enjoys people misery.

After thorough research of Bill Lawrence TV series I've gathered he particularly likes over exaggeration; this is good as it offers escapism to the audience.

  1. Scrubs = funny hospital
  2. Cougar Town = a woman having a mid life crisis
  3. Spin City = funny government office
  4. Boy meets world = a boy growing up and the challenges he faces

The way he's inspired me is in the exaggeration which I've portrayed through the V.O that I used and the insults.
